MUMBAI/PUNE, 9 December 2007 — Several Muslim organizations on Friday held a “fill prison” agitation at the famous Azad Maidan ground in South Mumbai demanding immediate implementation of the Srikrishna panel report.

The State Samajwadi Party President Abu Azmi and more than 500 Muslims courted arrest shouting slogans against the state government. They were whisked away in police vans but released in the evening.

The agitation held under the umbrella of Justice Agitation Committee (JAC), included participation by various non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Azmi said that the agitation would continue till such time the state government does not put into actual implementation of the Srikrishna Commission report.

The panel has in its report mentioned the involvement of 31 police officers including some politicians in the 1992 Mumbai communal riots.

Azmi alleged that the state government was dilly-dallying in the implementation of the report to protect the instigators of the riots.
