JEDDAH, 24 February 2007 — Egyptian national team player Ali Agel overcame Ibrahim Qari from the Medicine College of King Abdulaziz University to win the Sabre event of the Masters Academy for Fencing and Martial Arts second Open Fencing Championship here. Ahmed Al-Awad from Ibn Al-Jirzi Intermediate School placed third.
The first Saudi fencer and President of the Arabian Fencing Federation Prince Homoud ibn Saud ibn Abdulaziz attended the final matches and awarding ceremony on Thursday. Families too attended to watch the finals and awarding ceremony.
In the Epee event for (Juveniles) Mohammed Ashram from Dar Al-Marifah School won first place, Amro Taha from Al-Sadigah School, second, and Nawaf Al-Ghaithi from Al-Thaghr School finished third.
In the Foil event for (juniors) first place went to Rayan Rajab from Al-Andalus School, while second and third places went to Sultan Al-Sihli and Ammar Batterji respectively, both from Dar Al-Thikir School.
In the Epee event between Saudi national team players (First team), Mohammed Al-Daghistani (first), Abdullah Al-Daghistani (second), Abdulrahman Al-Daghistani (third), Riyadh Al-Rifaai (fourth) finished in that order. Ammar Faidah from Dar Al-Fikr School was given the best player award, Omar Abu Rumayah, coach of the team at the academy, said.
Five cups were offered to junior fencers for their performance as they reached the final stages despite being under ten. Muhanad Al-Khuraiji, Yassir Batterji, Sami Bakhsh, Sani Madani, and Rayyan Rajab were presented the cups.
Certificates were also given to Riyadh Al-Rifaai, Mohammed Taha, Rayan Al-Madani and Mansour Sukkari for reaching the Epee finals.
Chairman of the Arabian Company for Entertainment Events Ltd., which runs the academy, Al-Sharif Muwafaq Al-Harith, presented the Prince Homoud a souvenir from the Academy for his support and encouragement to the fencers.
