ABU DHABI/SINGAPORE, 2 November 2006 — The UAE has become a major attraction for investment and employment from all around the world. This has been largely due to its enforcement of market policies and providing all the required facilities and services to investors in a positive atmosphere, according to UAE Labor Minister Dr. Ali ibn Abdullah Al Ka’bi.
Speaking at the UAE & Asian conference — Global Interpolis Singapore, organized by UAE Chambers Union in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Dubai Consultancy Company and Singaporean Trade Union, Al Ka’bi said “All these considerations have made the UAE a good environment for investment and work as well as an advanced trade zone and attractive tourist destination in the Arabian Gulf.”
“Emirates is continuously monitoring labor law, including protection of worker’s rights, fair wages, housing, health, safety and occupational justice” he added.
“The UAE is still looking to reach cooperation agreements or memoranda of understanding between the two countries, particularly in the field of using technology in employment procedures,” he said. “The percentage of foreign workers in the UAE is 90 percent of the total work force and estimated volume of remittances abroad is approximately $22 billion annually.
The UAE is planning to sign memoranda of understanding in the area of temporary employment with all exporters of labor,” he added. Global Interpolis Singapore began on Tuesday in Singapore in the presence of a large number of officials from the UAE and Singapore. Along with Dr. Al Ka’bi, Abdulla Al-Saleh, undersecretary of Ministry of Economy and Planning, Salah Salem ibn Amer Al-Shamsi, chairman of the UAE Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Mohammed Omar Abdullah, director general, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Yusuffali MA and other prominent members of ADCCI participated in the forum. On the Singaporean side William Hang King, minister of trade and industry, and a large number of heads of institutions and other officials concerned were present.
