RIYADH: Princess Sarah bint Bandar, the executive director of the International Dates Council, met the Turkish Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Emrullah Isler at the Turkish Embassy in Riyadh on Sunday.

The meeting looked at the council’s work, objectives and role in supporting the global dates sector, and discussed Turkiye’s potential membership and the procedures for joining.

Isler expressed an interest in the council’s programs, initiatives and membership process, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Turkiye is among the world’s leading importers of dates, importing 67,093 tonnes worth $133.7 million in 2025.

The International Dates Council serves as a global reference body for developing and regulating the dates sector, bringing together producing, exporting and importing countries.

“It aims to unify international standards, build a trusted knowledge and data platform, enhance the economic value of dates, strengthen their presence in global markets, and support the sector’s long-term sustainability,” the SPA added.
