RIYADH: Towering golden sand dunes stretching to the horizon, shifting patterns sculpted by the wind and pockets of resilient desert vegetation have turned Khab Saha in Saudi Arabia’s Northern Borders Region into one of the Kingdom’s emerging ecotourism destinations, according to a report by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Located around 120 kilometers southwest of Rafha Governorate, Khab Saha is renowned for its sweeping desert landscapes, where chains of towering dunes create dramatic panoramas that attract photographers, hikers, off-road enthusiasts and visitors seeking to experience the Kingdom’s natural beauty.
The dunes constantly transform throughout the day as changing sunlight casts varying shades of gold across the landscape, while desert winds carve delicate ridges and flowing contours into the sand, creating an ever-changing natural canvas.
Scattered among the dunes are hardy native plants that have adapted to the region’s harsh climate. Earlier this year, seasonal rainfall transformed parts of Khab Saha into a striking landscape where the golden dunes of the Nafud Desert were complemented by patches of seasonal vegetation and blooming white daisies, creating a rare contrast between sand and wildflowers.
The scenic drive along the Rafha-Hail highway offers sweeping views of rolling dunes, highlands and lowlands, where the blue sky appears to merge with wind-shaped sand formations. The area’s tranquil atmosphere and clean desert air have made it especially popular with nature lovers and landscape photographers.
