ISLAMABAD: Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday for talks on bilateral ties and regional developments, days after Kuwait ratified a five-year defense cooperation agreement that significantly expands military collaboration between the two countries.
The visit comes as Pakistan and Kuwait move to deepen their strategic partnership through closer defense cooperation and economic engagement amid continuing instability in the Middle East. Kuwait this week ratified the agreement, originally signed in 2023, paving the way for expanded cooperation in military training, intelligence sharing, defense technology, logistics and joint exercises.
“During the visit, the two sides will hold talks covering the full spectrum of bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest,” Pakistan’s foreign ministry said after Al-Sabah landed in Islamabad on Tuesday evening.
According to Kuwait’s official gazette, the five-year defense agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between the armed forces of both countries covering military education and training, intelligence sharing, logistics, defense technology, scientific research and exchanges of expertise.
The pact also provides for cooperation in military manufacturing, electronic communications systems and the establishment of a joint military committee to oversee implementation through official exchanges and joint exercises.
The ratification follows months of high-level contacts between Pakistani and Kuwaiti civilian and military officials and comes after heightened security tensions in the Gulf, where Kuwait has faced Iranian missile and drone attacks during recent regional hostilities.
