DAMASCUS: Thirty-five people were killed, and 30 others were injured on Saturday in a traffic accident on the Damascus-Deir Ezzor road.
The accident occurred when two buses collided in the area between Al-Sukhna and Palmyra on the Deir Ezzor-Damascus highway.
The Ministry of Defense dispatched several helicopters for the medical evacuation of the injured and the victims to the Homs Military Hospital.
The Ministry of Interior stated on its official platforms that ambulance teams and authorities rushed to the scene, where efforts were underway to transport the injured and evacuate the victims.
Dr. Najeeb Al-Naasan, director of the Ambulance and Emergency Department at the Ministry of Health, said that the toll had reached 35 deaths and 30 injuries so far.
The Syrian Civil Defense reported on its Telegram channel that its teams headed from the Palmyra center, with reinforcement requested from Deir Ezzor centers, to respond to the accident.
The Civil Defense said on Friday that 22 people were injured in road accidents and fires across Syria.
Emergency teams responded to 17 traffic accidents that left 20 people injured, according to the Civil Defense’s daily report.
Rescue crews provided first aid, transported the injured to hospitals and secured the accident sites.
Firefighters also tackled 181 fires, including one involving agricultural land.
The remaining fires occurred in homes, commercial premises, vegetation, trees, garbage and electrical infrastructure.
Two people were injured in the fires, with one transferred to Al-Mujtahid Hospital in Damascus.
The fires also caused material damage.
The latest figures follow incidents reported on Thursday that left one person dead and 31 others injured across Syria.
