LONDON: Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa, Bahrain’s interior minister, arrived in Damascus on Tuesday for talks with Syrian officials.
Sheikh Rashid and his Syrian counterpart, Anas Khattab, discussed ways to enhance security cooperation and coordination between Manama and Damascus, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported. They also emphasized the importance of providing support for the foundations of regional security and stability.
Sheikh Rashid is the third high-ranking Bahraini official to visit Syria since the fall of the Assad regime in December 2024. In January 2025, Foreign Minister Abdullatif Bin Rashid Al-Zayani travelled to Damascus, a few weeks after a high-level diplomatic visit by Sheikh Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khalifa, chairperson of Bahrain’s Strategic Security Bureau.
Syria’s interim president, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, visited Manama twice last year as the country sought to rebuild relations with nations in the region and Europe nations following years of international isolation under the former Assad regime.
