RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s national shipping company, Bahri, has opened its first integrated logistics deposit zone at Jeddah Islamic Port, expanding its supply chain capabilities.
Developed by Bahri Logistics in partnership with the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority and the Saudi Ports Authority, the facility offers integrated warehousing and distribution services aimed at streamlining trade, strengthening supply chains and improving cargo movement through one of the Kingdom’s busiest ports, according to a press release.
The launch comes as Saudi Arabia accelerates efforts to strengthen its logistics sector under the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to position the Kingdom among the world’s top 10 distribution hubs by 2030 through major investments in ports, transport infrastructure, and supply chain capabilities.
The strategy also targets handling 40 million containers annually, increasing the logistics sector’s contribution to gross domestic product, and leveraging Saudi Arabia’s strategic location linking Asia, Europe, and Africa.
In a release, Bahri CEO Ahmed Ali Al-Subaey said: “The inauguration of the Bahri Logistics Zone represents a significant step in Bahri’s journey toward expanding its integrated logistics services and providing solutions that support the evolving needs of our customers.”
He added: “The area also reflects our commitment to developing advanced logistics infrastructure that contributes to enhancing the efficiency of supply chains, boosting trade, and supporting the Kingdom’s objectives of becoming a global logistics hub.”
Al-Subaey said the facility’s strategic location at Jeddah Islamic Port and integration with customs and digital systems would enable customers to improve efficiency, flexibility and control over their logistics operations, enhancing their competitiveness and access to local, regional and global markets.
High-capacity logistics infrastructure
President of Bahri Integrated Logistics Soror Basalom said: “The Bahri Logistics Zone spans an area exceeding 95,000 sq. meters and provides storage capacity for more than 80,000 pallets, in addition to the capacity to handle more than one million pallets annually.”
He added that the facility includes 34 loading and unloading berths equipped with solar panels that provide approximately 20 percent of its energy needs, as well as regular, refrigerated, and frozen storage facilities, integrated logistics solutions serving multiple sectors, and a comprehensive suite of value-added services.
The zone’s strategic location within Jeddah Islamic Port, on a key Red Sea trade route that handles around 30 percent of global container traffic, enhances its ability to facilitate trade between Asia, Europe, and regional markets.
