Watermelon Pictures promotes ‘American Doctor’ ahead of August release

DUBAI: Watermelon Pictures is conitinuing promotion of hard-hitting films on Palestine, taking to social media this week to share the news that “American Doctor” will be released in US cinemas in August.

“From Oscar-nominated and Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Poh Si Teng, ‘American Doctor’ follows three American physicians — Palestinian, Jewish, and Zoroastrian — united by a single oath to save lives. After volunteering in besieged hospitals in Gaza, they return home determined to fight for the patients and colleagues they left behind, taking their battle from the front lines of war to the halls of Congress,” the film’s official logline reads.

Watermelon Pictures is distributing the film. Founded by brothers Badie and Hamza Ali, it earned an Oscar nomination in 2025 for “The Voice of Hind Rajab” by Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania. The film is set in Gaza and is based on the true story of a Palestinian girl killed in 2024 by Israeli forces.

The production house, as well as Arab stars such as actress May Calamawy, took to social media in July 2025 to promote the Palestinian film “To a Land Unknown.”

Also distributed by Watermelon Pictures, the film is directed by Mahdi Fleifel and stars Angeliki Papoulia, Mahmoud Bakri, Manal Awad and Aram Sabbah.

“Reda and Chatila are two Palestinian cousins hustling their way through the underbelly of Athens pursuing their dream of making it to Germany. But as their hardship grows, so too does their desperation. When Chatila hatches a reckless all-or-nothing plan, it strains their bond and pushes the limits of what they will do for freedom,” the film’s logline reads.

The film was awarded the Silver Yusr Award at the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia in 2024.
