UAE president arrives in Kuwait for talks with emir

  • Foreign ministry condemns Iranian missile, drone attacks

LONDON: UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan arrived in Kuwait on Thursday for a meeting with Emir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Al-Nahyan was accompanied by a high-level delegation.

The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier condemned the Iranian missile and drone attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain.

It affirmed the UAE’s full support for the two Gulf Cooperation Council member countries and all measures aimed at safeguarding their security and stability, the Emirates News Agency reported.

Iran launched attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan on Thursday after the collapse of its fragile ceasefire with the US. Talks between the two sides reached a deadlock over Tehran’s nuclear program and the flow of energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has targeted the UAE several times since the US and Israel launched their war against Tehran in February. Iran’s former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed early on in the fighting, was buried in his birthplace in Mashhad on Thursday.
