RIYADH: The King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Madinah delivered 23,443 chemotherapy sessions in 2025, increasing its treatment capacity by 27 percent from 2024 as part of its long-term mission to provide world-class healthcare in the Kingdom.
“The 27 percent increase in treatment capacity is an important achievement, but for us it represents much more than higher numbers. It reflects the dedication of our teams and the progress we have made in creating a more integrated model of care that brings together diagnosis, multidisciplinary treatment planning, systemic therapy, supportive care, nutrition, psychological support, survivorship and palliative care when needed,” Dr. Emad Khadawardi, KFSH Madinah CEO, told Arab News.
“This growth was the result of many improvements coming together: We strengthened coordination across the entire patient journey, from referral and diagnosis through pathology, imaging, multidisciplinary review, treatment planning and therapy delivery,” he said.
“By improving these processes, we were able to increase capacity while maintaining the quality and safety our patients expect.”
The Madinah branch opened in 2021, following the inauguration of the Jeddah branch in early 2000 and the main Riyadh campus in 1975.
The expansion of the hospital and its specialized oncology services has enabled cancer patients in Madinah and its surrounding areas to access advanced care closer to their homes and families.
The Madinah center has 400 beds across multiple specialties, including pediatric and adult oncology, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology.
According to the hospital administration, care extends beyond drug therapy to include regular follow-up, management of treatment-related symptoms, nutritional guidance and psychological support, helping patients navigate their treatment journey with greater stability and continuity.
“The achievement also reflects the outstanding commitment of our physicians, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals, who work together every day to deliver seamless, patient-centered care,” Khadawardi said.
“Most importantly, this growth reflects the confidence that patients and referring physicians place in KFSH.”
The center continues to expand its clinical capacity, recording a 20 percent year-on-year increase in the number of patients accepted in 2025 compared with 2024.
“Looking ahead, we will continue expanding our outpatient oncology services, strengthening our oncology specialty pharmacy, enhancing multidisciplinary care, and improving patient flow so patients receive timely and coordinated care,” Khadawardi said.
“We are also progressing with strategic initiatives, including the development of a comprehensive radiotherapy center, which will further strengthen cancer services in the region,” he added.
KFSH was recognized as the most valuable healthcare brand in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East by Brand Finance 2026 and was listed by Newsweek among the World’s Best Hospitals 2026, World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2026 and World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2026.
