KSrelief extends Masam project for a year to clear landmines in Yemen

RIYADH: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has extended the contract for the Masam project to clear Yemen of landmines for another year, with a budget of $52,531,168.

The project is implemented by Saudi personnel and international experts through Yemeni teams trained to remove all types of landmines planted indiscriminately in Yemen.

It also conducts training and capacity-building activities for Yemenis in the field of landmine clearance.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, adviser at the Royal Court and supervisor-general of the KSrelief, affirmed that renewing this contract with the implementing partner stems from the center’s sense of humanitarian responsibility toward its brothers and sisters in war-ravaged Yemen.

Landmines have caused permanent injuries, chronic disabilities, and numerous casualties, instilling widespread fear and claiming the lives of all, especially children, women, and the elderly.

Al-Rabeeah explained that the project has, to date, successfully removed 567,182 anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, unexploded ordnance, and various types of projectiles.

He expressed gratitude to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their humanitarian and relief efforts, which have contributed to alleviating the suffering of people around the world, especially the Yemeni people.
