Hezbollah says US-Iran agreement covers Lebanon, warns Israel against violations

  • The group said Lebanon’s inclusion in the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran reflected Iran’s commitment to ending the war

BEIRUT: Hezbollah on Monday said the US-Iran agreement to end the Middle East conflict has effectively resulted in a broader ceasefire that includes Lebanon, while warning Israel against any violations of Lebanese sovereignty.

In a statement, the Iran-backed group said Lebanon’s inclusion in the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran reflected Iran’s commitment to ending the war and ensuring a comprehensive cessation of hostilities across all fronts.

Hezbollah warned that it would not accept any attacks that violate Lebanon’s sovereignty or target its people, and reaffirmed what it called Lebanon’s “legitimate and unwavering right” to defend its land, people and sovereignty until a full Israeli withdrawal is achieved and prisoners are returned.

The group also expressed “profound gratitude” to Iran’s leadership, forces and people for their support of Lebanon and for insisting that it be included in any agreement leading to a halt in the fighting.

Separately, a Hezbollah official told Reuters the group has not carried out any operations since the announcement of the US-Iran deal, adding that its position on the ceasefire is linked to Israel’s adherence to it. The official, who declined to be named, said Iran delayed signing the agreement with the United States to monitor Israel’s compliance with the ceasefire in Lebanon.
