Pakistan arrests attempted murder suspect wanted for 16 years upon arrival from UAE

  • Muhammad Ayaz was wanted in attempted murder case by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police, says FIA
  • Agency says Ayaz arrested from Multan airport upon arrival from UAE and handed over to KP police

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Monday said it had arrested a fugitive who had been wanted in an attempted murder case for the past 16 years upon his arrival from the UAE.

Muhammad Ayaz was wanted in an attempted murder case by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said in a statement. The FIA said it arrested Ayaz during an operation at Multan Airport after he arrived from the UAE.

“Fugitive wanted in attempted murder case for 16 years arrested at Multan Airport,” the FIA said.

The agency said KP police had registered a case against Ayaz in 2010 on attempted murder charges, adding that his name was placed on the airport’s Stop List.

The FIA said Ayaz was handed over to KP police for further investigation.

The FIA is Pakistan’s leading law enforcement body. It leads operations to arrest nationals who flee abroad after committing crimes in the country.

The FIA and Interpol have also collaborated in the past to bring back criminals who fled the country to escape justice.
