Saudi crown prince directs resumption of Lebanese exports to Kingdom

  • Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam also requested that the directive be issued

RIYADH: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has directed the resumption of Lebanese exports to the Kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Wednesday.

The move comes “in accordance with the positive steps taken by the Lebanese government in the way of rebuilding state institutions, what specialized teams have accomplished throughout the past year, and the cooperation shown by the Lebanese side with them and its provision of the required commitements.”

Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam also requested that the directive be issued, SPA added.

The decision was communicated to Salam during a phone call with the Kingdom’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.

Prince Faisal affirmed the Kingdom’s support for Lebanon’s stability, sovereignty over all its territory, and the well-being of its people, and expressed his confidence that Lebanon’s government will take all necessary measures to ensure the country is not used as a platform to harm regional countries.

Salam thanked Prince Mohammed and welcomed the decision, describing it as a reflection of the “deep fraternal and historical relations” between the two countries.

He said the move demonstrated the Kingdom’s confidence in Lebanon and would help support the Lebanese economy by creating new opportunities for producers and exporters.

Salam also expressed hope for closer economic cooperation between Beirut and Riyadh and thanked Prince Faisal bin Farhan for his efforts in bringing the issue to a successful conclusion.
