ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met senior military leaders of Lebanon and Bahrain on Tuesday to discuss regional security and defense cooperation, the Pakistan army said amid regional tensions due to the US-Iran war.
Lebanese Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief General Rodolphe Haykal visited the army headquarters in Rawalpindi where he met Munir.
His visit takes place as Lebanon remains at the center of regional tensions linked to the recent Israel-Iran conflict. Pakistan has repeatedly called for an end to Israeli military operations in Lebanon and supported diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East, while Lebanese state institutions, including the armed forces, have assumed an increasingly important role in maintaining stability amid continuing security challenges.
“During the meeting, both dignitaries exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, evolving regional security environment, defense cooperation and prospects for enhancing bilateral military relations,” the Pakistan army said in a statement after the meeting.
“The discussions focused on strengthening professional interactions, training cooperation and institutional linkages between the armed forces of the two countries.”
The Lebanese military chief appreciated the professionalism and operational excellence of Pakistan’s armed forces and acknowledged their contributions to regional peace, stability and international peacekeeping efforts, the statement said.
Later, Bahrain National Guard Commander General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa met Munir at the GHQ, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

“During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, regional security environment, and avenues for enhanced bilateral defense and security cooperation were discussed,” it added.
The ISPR said both expressed satisfaction over Pakistan and Bahrain’s longstanding brotherly relations, underscoring the importance of further strengthening military-to-military collaboration.
Al Khalifa also held separate meetings with Pakistan’s naval and air chiefs to discuss bilateral cooperation, the ISPR said.
