ISLAMABAD: Six children were killed and another was injured when the roof of a house collapsed in northwestern Pakistan on Tuesday, state media reported.
The incident occurred in Kooza Alpuri, a town in Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to Radio Pakistan.
Fatal building collapses occur periodically in parts of Pakistan, particularly in rural areas where aging structures, poor maintenance and extreme weather can weaken homes.
“Six children were killed and one other sustained injuries when the roof of a house collapsed in the Kooza Alpuri area of district Shangla on Tuesday,” the state broadcaster reported.
The cause of the collapse was not immediately clear.
Shangla is a mountainous district in Pakistan’s northwest where many communities live in remote villages and houses are often built using locally available materials including stone, timber and mud.
The incident comes as disaster management and weather authorities have warned of rain, thunderstorms and possible flash flooding in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this week, though officials have not immediately linked the latest roof collapse to weather conditions.
No further details about the victims or the condition of the injured child were immediately available.
