Iranian consulate in India mocks Rubio over Taj Mahal visit

DUBAI: The Iranian consulate in Hyderabad, India, mocked US Secretary of State Marco Rubio after he shared photos of himself visiting the Taj Mahal during a recent trip to India.
Rubio, who toured the marble mausoleum with his wife Janet as part of a four-day visit, described the Taj Mahal as “one of the world’s most romantic treasures.”
In the visitor’s log, he wrote: “Thank you for giving us the opportunity to visit one of the world’s most romantic treasures.”
In a post shared on social media platform X, the Iranian consulate criticized Rubio, calling him “ignorant of history,” and argued that the monument reflected Iran’s cultural and architectural legacy.
“If Rubio were well-versed in history or architecture, he wouldn’t have stopped to take a photo in front of this memorial,” the consulate wrote.
“This memorial was built out of love for the wife of an Iranian emperor, and designed by Iranian architectural geniuses, while his government today threatens to destroy Iranian civilization and insults other civilizations,” the post read.
The post quickly circulated online, drawing reactions across social media platforms.
