Pakistan, China sign machinery, medical tech deals during President Zardari’s visit

  • Both sides to collaborate on construction equipment, animal vaccines and hospital technology
  • CPEC-linked partnership will focus on equipment supply, skills training and local production

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday witnessed the signing of a joint venture agreement and two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between Pakistani and Chinese entities covering construction machinery, animal vaccines and medical technology, as both sides moved to expand sectoral cooperation during his visit to China.

The deals focus on industrial collaboration, healthcare technology and livestock management, with an emphasis on local production, technology transfer and skills development in Pakistan.

One of the MoUs, signed between Al Hassan Trade Establishment, Sany International Development and Hainan Jiaolong International Technology, aims to strengthen cooperation in high-end equipment and construction machinery.

“The trilateral collaboration focuses on supporting work related to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, strengthening cooperation in the supply of complete construction machinery and equipment, development of a professional talent training system and provision of after-sales operation and maintenance services,” said a statement circulated by the President’s Secretariat.

“The parties will also explore investment opportunities for establishing factories in Pakistan and advancing localised production of construction machinery,” it added.

A separate joint venture agreement between the Sindh government’s Livestock and Fisheries Department and China’s Luoyang Modern Biology Group focuses on the distribution and supply of animal vaccines in Pakistan, including those for foot-and-mouth disease, along with technology exchange and potential livestock tracking systems.

In the healthcare sector, Dr Ziauddin Hospital signed an MoU with Shenzhen Weibang Technology to develop cooperation in medical technology, including the use of intelligent robots in clinical settings.

The deals were signed in the presence of senior officials from both countries, including Pakistan’s envoy to China and representatives from the Sindh government.
