Authorities complete greening drive in Abqaiq

DAMMAM: The Eastern Province Municipality has wrapped up an ambitious landscaping and green infrastructure drive in the governorate of Abqaiq, completing a raft of planting and maintenance works across the area in the first quarter of 2026 as part of a broader push to raise urban livability and environmental sustainability.

The centerpiece of the effort was the planting of 1,365 trees along public streets under the “Sharqiyatuna Khadra” or “Our Eastern Region is Green” initiative, a program aimed at expanding vegetation cover and improving air quality for residents.

An additional 85,000 seasonal and perennial flowers were planted across public streets, adding a layer of visual character to the streetscape, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

On the maintenance front, the municipality overhauled 357,000 sq. meters of green spaces and put in 365 shade trees.

Workers also restored 700 sq. meters of canopy shelters and reinforced fencing along 2,000 linear meters of green corridors.

Children’s play areas covering 4,850 sq. meters received dedicated maintenance, ensuring public recreational facilities remain safe and functional.
