Saudi refereeing crew selected for 2026 World Cup

RIYADH: FIFA has selected a Saudi refereeing crew to officiate at this year’s World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico.

The team comprises referee Khalid Al-Turais, assistant referee Mohammed Al-Abakry and video assistant referee Abdullah Al-Shehri, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The selection is recognition of the officials’ strong performances at regional, continental and international competitions, including the U-20 World Cup in Chile last year.

Saudi Arabian Football Federation President Yasser Almisehal congratulated the crew and wished them success at the tournament. He said he was confident that they would represent Saudi refereeing with distinction on the world stage.

FIFA’s decision to appoint the three officials reflected its trust in the Kingdom’s refereeing standards, following a series of widely praised performances in recent years, Almisehal said.

The World Cup runs from June 11 to July 18.
