ISLAMABAD: A United States negotiating team led by Vice President JD Vance is expected to visit Islamabad for talks with Iran, Pakistan’s state broadcaster reported on Thursday, as diplomatic efforts continue following a fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.
The reported visit comes after a two-week ceasefire agreed between the United States and Iran following weeks of escalating conflict that disrupted regional security and global energy markets. Pakistan has positioned itself as a facilitator in the crisis and has offered to host talks aimed at securing a longer-term settlement.
Quoting White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Radio Pakistan said the US delegation would include senior officials such as Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
“President Donald Trump is dispatching a negotiating team led by Vice President JD Vance to Islamabad for peace talks with Iran,” Radio Pakistan reported.
Iran’s delegation is expected to be led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to the report.
There was no immediate independent confirmation from US or Iranian officials on the reported visit, the composition of delegations or the timing of the talks.
