Trump says Lebanon not part of ceasefire, Iran says it is

  • Trump describes conflict between Israel and Hezbollah as a 'separate skirmish'
  • Iranian foreign minister says 'ball is in US's court' on sticking to agreement

WASHINGTON: The Israel-Hezbollah conflict in Lebanon is not covered by a temporary ceasefire deal between Washington and Tehran President Donald Trump said Wednesday after Lebanon was pounded by Israeli airstrikes.
“They were not included in the deal,” Trump told US public broadcaster PBS. He added that it was “because of Hezbollah,” the Iran-backed group.
“That’ll get taken care of too,” he reportedly said, adding: “That’s a separate skirmish.”

However Iran insisted Lebanon was covered by the deal, marking a major point of difference over the fragile agreement to end the conflict.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Israel’s war against Hezbollah in Lebanon must end as part of the deal.
“The world sees the massacres in Lebanon,” he said in a post on X. “The ball is in the US court, and the world is watching whether it will act on its commitments.”
