Syrian, Emirati presidents affirm strong ties amid regional tension

LONDON: Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa emphasized strong brotherly relations with the UAE during a phone call on Sunday with President Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.

Al-Sharaa reiterated Syria’s condemnation of Iranian aggression against some Arab countries, stressing the importance of respecting state sovereignty, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.

The two leaders also discussed ways to enhance Arab cooperation in addressing the regional conflict and its impact on security and stability since the United States and Israel launched a joint military campaign against Iran at the end of February.

Separately, the Syria Interior Ministry condemned an attack on the UAE Embassy in Damascus, describing it as a “reprehensible and unacceptable act,” and confirmed that an investigation has been launched.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said riots and vandalism had taken place outside its embassy and the head of mission’s residence in Damascus on Saturday, and urged authorities to ensure the security of the premises and its staff.
