LONDON: The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the Palestinian vice president, Hussein Al-Sheikh, met in Ankara on Tuesday to discuss recent developments in the region and explore ways in which cooperation between their states might be enhanced.
Al-Sheikh reiterated Palestine’s condemnation of ongoing Iranian attacks against Gulf nations, Jordan and Turkiye, and underscored the importance of efforts to safeguard their sovereignty and achieve regional peace and stability, the Palestinian Wafa news agency reported.
Al-Sheikh also held meetings on Tuesday with Turkiye’s foreign minister, Hakan Fidan, and the speaker of the Turkish parliament, Numan Kurtulmus.
Kurtulmus reviewed during a separate meeting with the head of the Palestinian National Council, Rawhi Fattouh, the ongoing preparations for Palestinian legislative elections scheduled for November.
Fattouh reaffirmed the determination of the Palestinian leadership to hold the elections, despite obstacles presented by Israeli policies in the occupied West Bank.
