ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has suffered a hairline fracture in his shoulder after slipping and falling while welcoming Egypt’s foreign minister in Islamabad, his son Ali Dar said on Sunday.
In videos shared widely on social media, Dar can be seen slipping and falling on the floor as he welcomed Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on Sunday.
The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Türkiye arrived in Islamabad on Sunday to hold talks on ending the war in the Middle East involving Iran, Israel and the US. Ali Dar said his father took part in all the meetings throughout the day despite his injury by taking painkillers.
“Around 9 PM, after recording the official statement and bringing a major day for Pakistan to a positive close, he underwent a medical check-up at the insistence of his family,” Ali said.
“His X-rays are overall fine. There is a hairline fracture in his shoulder.”
He said Dar’s pain will be managed with medication and other precautionary measures over the next few days.
Dar, who also serves as Pakistan’s foreign minister, said after the meeting on Sunday that Washington and Tehran have “expressed their confidence” in Islamabad to help facilitate talks between the two sides aimed at ending the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran.
“Pakistan will be honored to host and facilitate meaningful talks between the two sides in coming days, for a comprehensive and lasting settlement of the ongoing conflict,” he said.
He said the foreign ministers of Egypt, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia expressed concerns that the ongoing conflict is extremely unfortunate for its devastating impact on lives and livelihood across the wider region.
