UAE stance misread as country faces Iranian attacks, senior Emirati official says

  • Anwar Gargash urges political solution to ensure sustainable security in Gulf region

DUBAI: A senior Emirati official said on Saturday that Abu Dhabi remains convinced that a political solution is the guarantor of sustainable security in the region.

In a post on X, Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE president, said that some media outlets have misinterpreted Abu Dhabi’s positions amid the Iranian aggression in the Gulf.

Gargash said that while the UAE has been subjected to attacks aimed at its national interests and critical infrastructure, threatening civilian lives, the country has continued to respond with resolve and efficiency.

He said defending sovereignty of the homeland “is an honor and a responsibility.”

“Nevertheless, we affirm our conviction that a political solution must be the guarantor of sustainable security in the region, not temporary solutions that reproduce instability for decades to come.”
