Ballistic missile debris falls on houses in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province

  • Civil Defense says the fragments fell on 2 homes in a residential area, causing limited damage and no injuries
  • More than 30 drones also shot down over the Kingdom

RIYADH: Debris from an intercepted missile landed on two houses in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province on Wednesday as Iran kept its strikes across the Arabian Gulf.

Parts of a ballistic missile fell onto the buildings’ roofs in a residential area in the region early in the day, a Civil Defense spokesperson said.

No one was injured, and there was “limited material damage,” with one of the buildings still under construction.

The Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense said shortly after midnight that a ballistic missile was “detected and destroyed heading towards the Eastern Province.”

The ministry also reported more than 30 drones fired toward Saudi Arabia since midnight. All of them were intercepted over the Eastern Province, apart from one that was shot down over Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries have faced a daily barrage of drones and missiles since the conflict between Israel and the US on one side and Iran on the other began on February 28.

Saudi Arabia’s permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, Abdulmohsen Majed bin Khothaila, on Wednesday strongly condemned “blatant Iranian attacks” against the Kingdom, other Arab Gulf states, and Jordan.

He told an emergency meeting of the UN Human Rights Council that the attacks were a violation of state sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as a clear breach of international law and charters.

The attacks have also targeted civilian and energy infrastructure, including Saudi Arabia’s Yanbu Port and a key gas hub in Qatar.

A drone attack also hit a fuel tank and sparked a fire at Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday.
