Saudi, French defense ministers discuss ties, regional developments

RIYADH: Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman met his French counterpart, Catherine Vautrin, to discuss defense cooperation and regional developments on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the ministers reviewed Franco-Saudi relations in the defense sector and explored ways to strengthen them.

In a post on X, Prince Khalid said the talks also addressed developments in the region and their wider implications, adding that both sides condemned repeated Iranian attacks targeting the Kingdom.

The meeting comes amid continued expressions of French support for Saudi Arabia’s security.

It also comes a day after French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated France’s solidarity with the Kingdom during a phone call with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Macron affirmed France’s backing for measures taken by Saudi Arabia to preserve its sovereignty and security, and reiterated Paris’ condemnation of repeated Iranian attacks against the Kingdom.
