Tourism surges as Al-Balad attracts 4m visitors during Ramadan

  • Milestone reflects district’s growing appeal as global cultural destination
  • Targeted programs align with goals of Saudi Vision 2030

JEDDAH: Jeddah Historic District, otherwise known as Al-Balad, recorded a surge in visitor numbers during Ramadan, attracting more than 4 million citizens, residents, and tourists, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The milestone reflects Al-Balad’s growing appeal as a global cultural destination and its rising profile as a hub blending heritage with modern cultural offerings within an integrated ecosystem.

Al-Balad witnessed heightened activity throughout the holy month, driven by a diverse lineup of events and programs across multiple locations, catering to a wide range of interests, the SPA added.

Cultural experiences were combined with interactive activities, heritage performances, traditional markets, and local cuisine, providing visitors with a comprehensive Ramadan experience that highlighted the richness of Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage.

Historic neighborhoods were transformed into vibrant spaces in which cultural initiatives met with social traditions to create a unique Ramadan atmosphere that highlighted the values of connection and community associated with the holy month.

Cultural centers and museums further enriched the experience through educational programs and interactive workshops, introducing visitors to Jeddah’s history and civilizational legacy while showcasing traditional crafts and local products.

Commercial venues saw strong footfall as economic activity aligned with cultural events, boosting trade and enhancing the visibility of local products. These efforts were supported by advanced logistical services.

Authorities said organizational efforts had played a key role in improving the overall visitor experience. Initiatives resulted in infrastructure upgrades, smoother crowd movement, and integrated services to ensure a safe and seamless environment.

The achievement highlighted ongoing schemes led by the Ministry of Culture to revitalize Jeddah Historic District, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, through targeted programs aimed at promoting cultural tourism.

The efforts align with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to position the district as a global cultural destination and a dynamic platform for culture, knowledge, and the creative economy.
