LONDON: Israeli forces on Monday advanced into an area near the Ruwaihina Dam in southwest Syria.
An Israeli infantry unit of approximately 30 soldiers advanced toward the dam area in the northern countryside of Quneitra province and deployed there, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.
Following the fall of the Bashar Assad regime in December 2024, Israeli forces have conducted regular incursions into villages in southern Syria, particularly near Quneitra and Suwaida.
Residents of Ruwaihina village clashed with Israeli forces last May when they entered the village and stopped residents. The dam was built in the 1980s, and the residents live by farming their land and also on fish farms.
Syria has accused Israel of consistently violating the 1974 Disengagement Agreement through these incursions and has reiterated its calls for Israel to withdraw from Syrian territory.
