RIYADH: Saudi Ambassador to the US Princess Reema bint Bandar bin Sultan and GCC ambassadors in Washington recently met with the Elbridge Colby, the US under secretary of war for policy Elbridge Colby, the Saudi Embassy said on X on Saturday.
The meeting was also attended by other senior US officials, including Michael P. Dimino, US deputy assistant secretary of war for the Middle East, and Robert Palladino, the senior bureau official of the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the US Department of State, to discuss the latest security developments in the region.
Participants discussed escalating security challenges and stressed the need for closer coordination to safeguard regional stability and ensure freedom of air and maritime navigation.
“This comes in light of ongoing Iranian attacks targeting GCC countries, which have deliberately struck civilians, infrastructure, and critical civilian facilities, constituting a clear and direct violation of sovereignty, as well as international norms and conventions,” the embassy’s statement said.
The participants also reiterated that the security of GCC states is indivisible, describing it as a “core principle” of the bloc’s charter.
Colby emphasized the importance of Washington’s partnership with GCC countries, highlighting their role in operating missile defense systems to counter attacks targeting civilian infrastructure and populated areas.
He reaffirmed the US Department of War’s intention to strengthen coordination with GCC states within the framework of the longstanding strategic partnership between the two sides.
