RIYADH: The Saudi aid agency KSrelief distributed food aid to thousands of people as Muslims worldwide perform Zakat Al-Fitr at the start of Eid.
On Thursday, KSrelief served 24,000 hot meals to displaced families in the Gaza Strip as part of the Saudi fundraising campaign for the Palestinian people, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
The organization distributed 4,654 bags of rice across several Yemeni governorates which benefited 32,578 individuals from 4,654 vulnerable families.
In the country’s Al-Mukalla district, KSrelief distributed 191 bags of rice to 1,337 individuals.
With the end of Ramadan, worshippers are obliged to donate the equivalent of about three kilograms of staple food to the needy as part of Zakat Al-Fitr.
In Bangladesh, KSrelief donated food baskets to about 5,000 people from 1,000 families including orphans and people with disabilities.
As part of its Zakat Al-Fitr project in Somalia, the organization distributed 4,000 bags of rice in the Benadir region, benefiting 32,000 people.
KSrelief gave out 9,122 cartons of dates to vulnerable groups in Chad, with 54,732 people in that country receiving the food aid.
As well as distributing food aid, the charitable organization also gave out bundles of clothing to displaced and vulnerable people.
KSrelief delivered 8,300 sets of clothing to children in need across several governorates of Syria.
In Yemen, the organization gave out Eid clothing to 240 children in the country’s Marib governorate.
The project was carried out in coordination with the Charitable Society for Orphans Care in Riyadh.
It was part of a broader initiative to provide Eid clothing and gifts to 19,000 people from vulnerable families, including internally displaced persons and host communities in the Yemeni governorates of Al-Mahra, Hadhramaut, Aden, Marib and Lahj.
