US embassy evacuates staff from Lebanon as precaution

DUBAI: The US Embassy in Lebanon has reportedly evacuated several of its staff members as a precautionary measure amid fears of a possible escalation in the region, Al Arabiya News Channel said Monday.

Several embassy staff have been evacuated from Lebanon, the channel cited a source close to the embassy as saying. Local news also reported that the US embassy “evacuated dozens of its staff members through Beirut’s airport.”

The move was described as preventive and linked to expectations of a possible US strike on Tehran.

Earlier, India’s foreign ministry urged its citizens Monday to leave Iran also as a preventive measure.

“In view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals who are currently in Iran... are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights,” the Indian Embassy in Tehran said in a post on social media.

India’s foreign ministry estimates there are usually around 10,000 citizens in Iran.

LONDON: Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and Albanian President Bajram Begaj discussed ways to expand cooperation in the health, education, information technology, and tourism sectors.

The president visited the ancient city of Petra on Monday as part of an official visit to Jordan, accompanied by Albania’s first lady, Armanda Begaj. They toured key landmarks in the city, including the siq and the treasury. They also met with Adnan Sawaier, chief commissioner of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority, and Yazan Mahadin, commissioner for the Reserve and Tourism.
