Saudi project Masam removes arsenal from Mukalla

  • With this latest operation, the total number of mines, improvised explosive devices and unexploded ordnance destroyed by Project Masam teams in Mukalla since Saturday has reached 7,921

AL-MUKALLA: The Masam project for landmine clearance in Yemen has carried out its third arsenal removal operation in the city of Mukalla, in Hadhramaut governorate, which included 1,531 land mines and remnants of war.

According to the project’s media center, the operation was carried out by the emergency teams affiliated with Masam and the Mukalla branch of the Executive Center for Mine Action.

The center said that the operation came within the framework of the project’s work in Mukalla, aimed at clearing it of land mines and all forms of remnants of war to ensure the safety of the city’s residents and to provide the highest levels of security for all civilian facilities and key access routes.

The list of materials that were destroyed included: 10 anti-tank mines, six anti-personnel mines, four guided missiles (N72), 23 82mm mortar rounds, 183 37mm shells, 150 23mm shells, 15 hand grenades, 720 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, and 420 rounds of 14.7mm ammunition.

With this latest operation, the total number of mines, improvised explosive devices and unexploded ordnance destroyed by Project Masam teams in Mukalla since Saturday has reached 7,921.

JEDDAH: Jeddah Gov. Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi attended a ceremony in Jeddah on Sunday to mark Kuwait’s National Day.

Prince Saud was received by Kuwait’s Consul General Yousef Abdullah Al-Tunaib and other consulate officials, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Fareed bin Saad Al-Shehri, director-general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Makkah, and members of the diplomatic corps, were also in attendance.
