Iran’s Revolutionary Guard naval forces will carry out live-fire exercises in the Strait of Hormuz on February 1 and February 2, Press TV reported on Thursday.
The strait is the world’s most vital oil export route, which connects the biggest Gulf oil producers with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
The exercises will take place amid mounting tensions between Iran and the US with President Donald Trump reportedly mulling military action against the country.
The US has been ramping up its military presence in the region in recent weeks, including the arrival of the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group.
