Iran summons Italian ambassador over EU's Revolutionary Guard clampdown

  • Tehran warns of 'destructive consequences' of placing the group on EU's terrorist register
  • Italy had said it would propose the idea at a meeting of EU foreign ministers this week

Iran's foreign ministry summoned Italy's ambassador over Rome's efforts to place ‌the Revolutionary ‌Guard ‌on the European ‌Union's terrorist register, state media reported on Tuesday.
The ministry warned ‌of ‍the "destructive consequences" ‍of any ‍labelling against the group and called upon the Italian foreign minister to "correct his ill-considered approaches toward Iran," the official IRNA news agency reported.

Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Monday he would propose the idea "in coordination with other partners" at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels this week.

Tehran condemned Tajani's remarks as "irresponsible,"
