Tunisia says killed four members of ‘terrorist cell’

TUNIS: Tunisian authorities on Thursday said they killed four members of a “terrorist cell” in western Tunisia near the North African country’s border with Algeria.
An interior ministry statement said security forces had been tracking the movements of the suspects for several days near the town of Majel Bel Abbes, which is located in a mountainous and forested region.
The statement did not provide details about their identities.
The four were all Tunisian and belonged to the same family, according to local media citing security sources.
Following the 2011 revolution that toppled longtime president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, Tunisia saw a surge in militant attacks across the country.
Many Tunisians also traveled to Syria or Iraq to join the Daesh group or other extremists.
The security situation has since vastly improved, but Tunisian forces continue to hunt down suspected militants.
