Saudi assistant interior minister dies

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Assistant Minister of Interior for Operations Affairs Saeed bin Abdullah Al-Qahtani died on Friday, the ministry said in a post on X.

Al-Qahtani was a longstanding member of the Kingdom’s security forces, having served in the ministry for more than 60 years.

He played a key role in supporting major tactical exercises conducted with other Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

He also ensured the safety of Hajj pilgrims, chairing high-level meetings of security teams.

Minister of Interior Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud paid tribute to Al-Qahtani in a post on X.

“He was an exemplar of lofty morals, sincerity and integrity in his service to his leadership and his country throughout the 60 years he spent in the Ministry of Interior,” the minister said.

RIYADH: King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman received congratulatory messages from leaders of Islamic countries on the announcement of the start of Ramadan, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday.

The Saudi Supreme Court announced the sighting of the crescent moon on Tuesday and the holy month is to begin on Wednesday.

The king and crown prince sent replies to thank the leaders for their wishes and prayers.

They also prayed for Ramadan to bring goodness, blessings and lasting security and stability to the Islamic nations, the SPA added.
