BAHA: The Saudi Climbing and Hiking Federation is organizing a hiking event on Wednesday at Shada Al-Asfal Mountain in Al-Makhwah governorate, Baha region, to mark International Mountain Day.
Supervised by the Ministry of Sport’s regional branch, the initiative aims to promote mountain hiking, encourage community participation in outdoor activities, and highlight the natural features that make Baha an attractive destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
The event will run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and include a guided hike led by specialized personnel, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.
The program will follow the highest safety standards and offer a sporting and tourism experience that raises awareness about physical activity and promotes a healthy lifestyle, the SPA added.
In 2003, the UN General Assembly designated Dec. 11 as International Mountain Day to highlight the significance of mountainous terrains as not only stunning natural landscapes but also vital sources of biodiversity, culture, and heritage.
