RIYADH: First-year medical students showcased a variety of innovative projects at the annual Health Promotion Project Exhibition at Alfaisal University in Riyadh on Thursday.
The projects, with a “Future Outlook 2040” theme, focused on topics including an AI-powered wellness ecosystem, patient safety, cancer awareness, and the integration of digital health technologies.
The exhibition provided a platform for students to present their research and solutions related to critical public health themes aligning with Saudi Vision 2030, Zaid Alsawawy, a student participating in the health expo, told Arab News.
He said: “Saudi Arabia’s healthcare is one of the best in the world, but it can be better. The current healthcare system is experiencing a strain due to its limited integration of the environmental change. Our goal is trying to eliminate this by proposing a bridge, connecting the medical profession to the environmental sector.”
Speaking to Arab News on the sideline of the exhibition, Dr. Baraa Alghalyini, founder of the annual health promotion project, vice dean, college of medicine, and head of family medicine department at Alfaisal University, thanked Dr. Mohammed Alhayaza, university president, and Princess Maha Al-Saud, university vice president of external relations and advancement, for the support provided for the health promotion project.
Alghalyini said that the annual exhibition highlighted the creativity and dedication of students and reinforced the institution’s commitment to advancing healthcare standards and promoting a culture of safety across all levels of care.
In alignment with Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasizes support for research, an educational revolution and public health awareness, the exhibition represented the commitment to these national goals, Alghalyini said.
The exhibition aims to promote awareness and innovation in fostering safer healthcare environments.
There are more than 50 booths by first-year students, both male and female. Through creative presentations, they have addressed key issues in patient safety, quality of care, and enhancing the overall patient experience.
Their aim is to educate people about health innovation and medical research. The projects are declared prize-winners on merit and marks are also awarded as part of the student first-year course.
This carries 20 percent of marks for assessment, and helps students in communication and social skills.
“Study gives them knowledge about the projects, and this project increases their awareness and helps increase social interaction,” Alghalyini said.
The exhibition is an engaging experience for students, featuring interactive and hands-on activities for active learning.
These activities aim to provide valuable insights into safety measures and innovative strategies, equipping participants with a deeper understanding of how to improve patient outcomes.
The event also presented a valuable networking opportunity, bringing together healthcare professionals, students, academic leaders and community members.
