SAKAKA: The economics of handicrafts and their role in supporting traditional industries was the focus of the second International Handicrafts Forum in Sakaka.

Speakers highlighted emerging trends and effective strategies to support artisans and develop their projects, aiming to enhance the presence of handicrafts in local and international markets while promoting their contributions to cultural tourism and sustainable development.

The session emphasized the importance of documenting the history of traditional handicrafts in the Arabian Peninsula, reported the Saudi Press Agency on Tuesday.

Experts said recording development served as a strategic tool for formulating cultural and industrial policies, allowing artisans to leverage heritage to create new products and adapt to modern economic trends.

The two-day event was organized by the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the Heritage Commission and the Royal Institute of Traditional Arts, as part of the Year of Handicrafts initiative.

The forum brought together specialists, researchers and artisans from Saudi Arabia and abroad, serving as a global platform to discuss contemporary issues in the handicrafts sector. It also highlighted the latest scientific studies and supported innovation in traditional industries.

Syrian foreign minister congratulates Saudi counterpart on Founding Day

RIYADH: Syria’s foreign minister, Asaad Al-Shaibani, on Monday congratulated his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, on Founding Day, which this year marked the 299th anniversary of the establishment of the First Saudi State.

During their telephone conversation the ministers also discussed the latest developments in Syria and the wider region, along with ways in which they might strengthen bilateral relations, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Prince Faisal reaffirmed the Kingdom’s support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and highlighted the need for regional stability and security, the Syrian Arab News Agency said.

Founding Day, which was introduced in 2022, is celebrated each year on Feb. 22 and marks the founding of the First Saudi State in 1727.
