DUBAI: Brantley Bell hit a one-run double in the sixth inning, and five pitchers combined for a shutout with only six hits allowed, to give Mumbai Cobras a 1-0 win over Mid East Falcons at Baseball United Ballpark in Dubai on Tuesday.
Akshay More got the win (3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 SO), with the task completed by Brandon Kaminer (2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 SO), Jacob Hasty (0.1 IP, 2 BB, 1 SO), Chandler Woolridge (2.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 SO) and Akeel Morris (1.0 IP 1 H, 2 SO, SV).
Woolridge made his third Fire Ball of the season effective in the eighth inning, after striking out Jake Hjelle with one out and two runners on base. Morris got the save after striking out two.
Bell went 1-for-3 with one RBI, and Caleb McNeely went 1-for-4 with one run scored, and Ian Mercado went 1-for-3.
With this victory, the Cobras (5-2), have secured their place in the United Series, Baseball United’s championship contest, slated to begin Dec. 12.
Other highlights:
Kazuki Yabuta pitched 5.1 outstanding innings, despite the loss (5.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 12 SO, including 1 Fire Ball Strikeout). Shingo Hirata (2.2 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 4 SO) and Severino González (1-0 IP, 4 SO), completed the pitching line for the Falcons.
Hiroyuki Nakajima went 2-for-4; Alejandro de Aza and Carlos Garzoni went 1-for-2, being the highlight of the Mid East offense.
The Mid East Falcons will close the mid-season break with a 2-2 record, with two consecutive losses.
