DUBAI: Noah Marcelo went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and four runs batted in — including a three-run home run in the eighth inning — and Taylor Darden went 2-for-4 with two home runs, two runs scored and four RBIs to give Arabia Wolves a 9-6 win over Mumbai Cobras.
The victory at the Baseball United Ballpark in Dubai was the Wolves’ first of the inaugural Baseball United season.
The team had two effective fireballs: Angelo Cabral struck out Victor Vahlberg with two on base in the second inning in his second of the season, while Reese Miller, with one out, ended the eighth inning by the same route. (A fireball, introduced by Baseball United, automatically ends an inning if a pitcher strikes out a batter).
Miller earned the victory, after 1.2 innings and two strikeouts (one of them via the fireball, which results in three strikeouts). Angelo Cabral (2.1 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO-1 FBK, 1HR), Akeem Bostick (2.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 SO), Quinn Waterhouse (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 SO) and Kristian Scott (2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 SO) completed the pitching line for Arabia.
The victory meant Arabia Wolves broke the Mumbai Cobras’ four-game winning streak and improved their record to 1-1 in the standings.
Other highlights:
Raul Shah went 1-for-4 with a home run, one run scored and three RBIs, and Brantley Bell went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI, to Mumbai’s offensive highlights.
The loss went to Akeel Morris in relief, after 0.2 IP, in which he allowed 3 unearned runs due to Marcelo’s HR
The defeat saw Mumbai fall to 4-2 but remain in second place in Baseball United’s Season 1.
