  • Pakistan’s Muhammad Yasir threw 76.04 meters to defeat Nigeria’s Samuel Adams Kure, bagging the silver medal
  • Nadeem, who underwent a procedural surgery in July this year, says he is ‘still working hard to get back to 100 percent’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani javelin ace Arshad Nadeem on Wednesday won gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at the Islamic Solidarity Games 2025 in Riyadh.

Nadeem, who is the reigning Olympic champion, logged the best throw of 83.05 meters from six attempts in a seven-man field.

The Pakistani javelin ace said he was grateful to achieve the feat.

“Alhamdulillah, grateful to bring home another gold for Pakistan,” Nadeem said in an X post on Thursday. “Still working hard to get back to 100 percent after surgery, but the hunger to win remains! More to come in the next tournaments, Insha’Allah!“

Nadeem underwent a procedural muscle surgery in Cambridge, UK in July, which marked a crucial step in his recovery from a calf muscle injury that forced him to withdraw from an international event in Switzerland this year, according to Pakistani media reports.

But Nadeem was not the only one to bag a medal for Pakistan in Riyadh. Muhammad Yasir threw 76.04 meters to defeat Nigeria’s Samuel Adams Kure, bagging silver medal for Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hailed Nadeem and Yasir for their feats, saying they achieved success with “great hard work and skill.”

“Pakistani javelin throwers are bringing glory to the country and nation all over the world,” he said in a statement, promising to provide the youth with best sports opportunities.

“It is gratifying that the players are performing well in various formats.”

The miner added the review of the Reko Diq project’s security arrangements, development timetable and capital budget would begin immediately, with an update once the process is completed.

The gold and copper project is owned 50 percent by Barrick, 25 percent by three federal state-owned enterprises and 25 percent by the Government of ‌Balochistan.
