ISLAMABAD: In a first, eight Pakistani information technology students will participate in the regional finals of Huawei Seeds for the Future 2024 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, next week, the state-owned Pakistani media reported on Tuesday.
Huawei’s initiative is part of its global corporate social responsibility program launched in 2008 to foster innovation, develop information technology talent and build a more digitally connected world.
Each year, the program selects outstanding students from universities and technical institutions worldwide, offering them a chance to engage in digital skills training, cross-cultural exchanges, and hands-on experience with the latest technologies like cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
Reporting the participation of eight Pakistani students in the week-long event beginning on August 11, Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) news agency quoted Huawei Middle East and Central Asia (ME&CA) President Steven Yi as congratulating the Pakistani team.
“I want to congratulate the Pakistan team for making it to the regional finals being held in Uzbekistan for the first time,” he said. “Huawei’s Seeds for the Future program is dedicated to equipping these bright minds with the essential skills and mindsets needed to thrive in our fast-paced world.”
“We’ve designed this platform to offer a wide range of opportunities, including online courses, competitions, exchange programs, and scholarships,” he added. “We aim to provide talented youth from the ME&CA region with unparalleled STEM [science, technology, engineering and mathematics] experiences, empowering them to pursue their dreams and make meaningful contributions to the global community.”
The Pakistani students come from various institutions, including the University of Engineering and Technology, COMSATS University and the National University of Sciences and Technology.
Young Pakistani information technology professionals have gained international recognition for their skills, excelling in global competitions and successfully raising funds for tech startups, which has significantly contributed to the growth of their country’s overall economy.
Huawei’s initiative can help them bridge the gap between academic training and industry needs, empowering them to make greater contributions to the global technological ecosystem.
