ALKHOBAR, 16 April 2004 — As expected, the VEEP/AFCSCOM-sponsored volleyball tournament was a resounding success. JBK team (Men’s Division) from Jubail, and SAAD D’ Beamers (Women’s Division) from Alkhobar were hailed as champions. Erdie Pasena from the Men’s champion team and Franz Meregillano of SAAD D’ Beamers teams, were adjudged as the Most Valuable Players in their respective division. JBK beat the crowd favorite, the Lucky Me! Supreme Team of Monde Nissin Philippines. It was a tight match and the spectators enjoyed not just the game but the color and enthusiasm given by the cheering squad of both teams. It was JBK’s first championship trophy; on the other hand SAAD D’ Beamers easily beat KFMMC in three consecutive sets.

VEEP/ AFCSCOM thanked major sponsors, participating teams, and all organizations under the umbrella of AFCSCOM for their unceasing support. The tournament director, Yolando “Bong” Buella emphasized the importance of this year’s tournament theme — “All For One, One For All”, he mentioned that no matter where Filipinos work, for as long as we are one in our vision, we will succeed. During the awarding ceremony the Best Muse from Lucky Me! Abe Indefonzo provided a breathtaking song number to delight the audience. Special awards and citations were given to the following individual:

Lucky Me! Supreme of Al-Bahar Rest were given the citations from one of the most supportive sponsors of the tournament, the company owner Mohamed Al-Sowaigh is more than glad to receive the Plaque of Appreciations.

The closing ceremony was attended by various community leaders of Eastern Province headed by AFCSCOM Overall Chairman Jojie Apolinario and VEEP President Ferdie De Peralta, with the presence of all participating from RADICON Consult, ABACORP, Al-Mouwasat Hospital.

MVP & Best Spiker : Erdie Pasena; Best Tosser: Aaaron Mark Sayago.

Best Digger: Jun Bernardo; Best Receiver: Erwin Roque; Best Blocker: Ricky Piguing; Best Server: Julius Umali; Rookie of the Year: Dante Jarata.

Women’s Division: MVP & Best Spiker: Franz Meregillano; Best Tosser: Sheryl Huab; Best Digger: Sherry Joy Pavilando; Best Receiver: Grace Reyes. Best Blocker: Loribel Bacaltos; Best Server: Winkee Dampil.
