ISLAMABAD: Hot and humid weather will prevail in majority of plains, while rains could lash upper parts of Pakistan on Monday, the Pakistani state media reported, citing the country’s weather office.
The brief dry spell comes amid the monsoon season in the country that will last till mid-September. Last week, several districts received rains as part of a wet spell that began on July 13.
“Hot and humid weather is likely in most plain areas of the country during the next twelve hours,” the state-run Radio Pakistan broadcaster reported, citing the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
“However, rain wind with thundershower is expected in Kashmir, Potohar region, northeast Punjab, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”
The downpours have killed at least 95 people so far this monsoon season, according to the country’s disaster management authority.
The rains have returned to Pakistan a year after the climate-induced downpour swelled rivers and inundated at one point one-third of the country, killing 1,739 people.
The floods caused $30 billion in damage in cash-strapped Pakistan in 2022.
