CAIRO: A woman in Egypt has been praised for her honesty after she found a cheque made out to “cash” for more than $41,000 and handed it in without hesitation.

The Egyptian woman found the cheque worth a million Egyptian pounds ($41,332) inside a women’s bathroom, but instead of cashing the cheque and keeping the cash, she handed the cheque into her bosses.

Abeer Ali, a cleaner at the Smouha Sports Club in Alexandria, cleans women's toilets to support her two young daughters, with a very small salary, local websites explained.

She said she was amazed by the large amount the cheque was for.

But she added that despite the hardships she faces every day, the thought never occurred to her to steal the money.

While some might have found it hard to resist the temptation to take the cash, honest Abeer said her only thought was to do the right thing and hand the cheque to club management.

So far, the check remains with the club administration, no one has claimed it.
Her honest act has received widespread media attention, which in turn prompted people give praise and call for her to be rewarded.

Users on social media praised her act and wrote her messages of appreciation over what she did.

“May God bless you and the parents who raised you,” one user wrote to her.

And Egyptian presenter Youssef Al-Husseini on his national daily TV show called on the Governor of Alexandria or from the Ministry of Housing to provide an apartment for Ali as a reward for her act.
